On May 17, 2023, the National Trust Ecofund presented the concept and implementation of a Project financed under the “Environmental Protection and Climate Change” Program of the European Economic Area (EEA) in one of the working panels of a thematic conference entitled “Climate Policies neutrality in Bulgaria”.
WWF held the conference with the participation of climate experts from the fields of politics, energy, environmental protection, relevant institutions, trade unions and forestry. In four thematic panels, followed by lively discussions, participants discussed a number of essential aspects of the Green Deal, including the adopted EU policy package “Ready for Goal 55”.
The first panel of the conference was dedicated to the difficulties surrounding the energy transition in Bulgaria and the opportunities and deadlines for achieving energy neutrality. The second focuses on the increasingly pressing issues of energy poverty and the relationship between climate and social justice.
In the last two panels, experts discussed climate change adaptation policies, examples of their implementation and the key role of nature-based solutions in the overall process.
In one of them, the presentation of Kamelia Georgieva from NTEF about the path taken towards the realization of the concrete investment measures with the implementation of blue-green infrastructure in eight large cities of Bulgaria caused extraordinary interest and discussion among the participants. This interest came from the fact that the measures were planned based on a professionally planned process of analysis and selection of the measures and all of them contribute to adaptation to the urban heat island effect, urban landslides or floods as a result of climate change in the cities of Burgas, Varna , Kardjali, Plovdiv, Ruse, Sliven, Sofia and Stara Zagora.
